Day of Dance and The National Youth Dance Festival Performance
Wednesday 11th July 2007

Youth Dance England, in partnership with Ludus Dance, Manchester International Festival and The Lowry, Salford, is presenting a ‘Day of Dance’, incorporating the National Youth Dance Festival performance at The Lowry on Wednesday 11th July.

Firstly, youth dance groups are being invited to perform a piece of work in an open platform in the magnificent foyer of The Lowry from 12.00 - 17.30.

Secondly, during the afternoon and early evening, a new site- specific promenade piece Migrations co-commissioned by Youth Dance England and Manchester International Festival, will be performed by five groups of young dancers from the Salford and Manchester area. The piece honours the abolition of slavery and celebrates the influence of migrating peoples on culture.

Finally, The Lowry host the National Youth Dance Festival performance from 19.00 – 21.00. Twelve groups of young dancers, including three from the North West, selected from regional events, will be performing an eclectic range of styles from contemporary to jazz and reggae to street dance, break-dance and hip hop.

The Day of Dance will be a great opportunity to see outstanding performances from young dancers and experience the breadth of dance styles on display.

For groups of 10 we can offer 1 complimentary ticket and groups of 25, five complimentary tickets.

Youth Dance in the East Online Survey Update
Thank you to all those that completed the online survey, which helps us gather information and your views about dance in the region. A snapshot of results was gathered on 11th May, so an analysis of the responses could begin. If you missed the chance to express your views the survey is now back online.

Youth Dance England & Arts Council England, East – Regional Youth Dance Seminar
As part of the Next Steps project being delivered by the Regional Youth Dance Coordinator, a Regional Development Plan for Youth Dance in the East is being written. The plan will be submitted to Youth Dance England at the end of December 2007, but a draft will be created by mid September for further consultation and feedback. A seminar will be held at The Arts Council Offices on Bateman Street, Cambridge on Friday 21st September from 11am until 3pm. If you are interested in attending this event please email Claire Somerville on claire@junction.co.uk with the following information:

Job title and the name of the organization you work for. This will help us prepare for the event.

High Voltage 2007 – a celebration of dance from across the East of England
DanceEast’s annual celebration of talent and achievement featuring young dancers from across East Anglia takes place over two evenings at the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich as part of the annual New Wolsey Theatre's Community Festival.

If you would like to recommend a dance group from the East of England to perform at this or other DanceEast platforms please send a video and details to Emma Reed, DanceEast, Northgate Arts Centre, Sidegate Lane West, Ipswich, Suffolk IP4 3DF.

“DANCE 4 ALL” 2007 – 16th June. Bedford. - An exciting new dance festival for everyone!
A chance to ‘Come & Try’, see, and learn about all forms of dance activity in Bedford Borough.

The Bedford Borough Council Sports Development Unit run a range of activities and programmes aimed at increasing the number of people who participate in all forms of sport and exercise. In order to help them to achieve this, and to promote all forms of dance as an inclusive activity for ALL members of the community, Bedford Borough Council present the “DANCE 4 ALL” festival on June 16th 2007 11.00am – 5.00pm at the Corn Exchange / Harpur Suite / Howard Rooms.

“D4A” will promote most forms of dance that are available within the Borough – Street dance, aerobics classes, salsa classes, tea dances, jazz dance, ballet, sports dance and much more! They are hoping to attract people who want to “come and try” dance as well as those who are already involved in this activity already. It is for everyone! They now have OVER 30 different groups confirmed and ready to dance….

Visitors will pay for a £1 wristband that enables them to try out classes, watch the activities, meet the groups and “drop in and out” throughout the day. “D4A” offers local groups the opportunity to demonstrate classes, run workshops and promote their activities to local people. There are two stages, dance floors and exhibition space.

This is the first ever “D4A” event and we hope this event will attract as many people as possible. All ages – all abilities, male and female!

‘eNgage’ 2007
‘eNgage’ is the annual youth and community dance showcase for Epping Forest Arts. The evening performance has a variety of groups from around the district as well as some who are invited from much further a field. ‘eNgage’ will be a performance guaranteed to be an explosion of energy, ideas and choreographic pieces not to be missed.

FULL TILT Auditions. The Norfolk Dance Youth Dance Company
Full Tilt is a committed performance group attending classes on a regular basis. The group works on choreographic skills and creates new work for performance. Members are invited to participate in special workshops and projects with visiting artists. This year we have worked with CandoCo and Lisa D’Onofrio (creative writer). There are also opportunities to go on theatre trips both locally and further afield! The next term will start in September.

We are holding auditions on Saturday July 28, 11:00am-3:30pm. If you would like the chance to become a member of this youth dance company for 14-25 year olds please fill in the form below, enclosing a passport photo of yourself. The deadline for applications is 30 June 2007.

The auditions are free and we will be holding a technique class and a creative class for auditionees to attend during the day. The audition day will end with a performance by our current Full Tilt members in the Studio Theatre at The Garage. Once we have received your application form, we will send you a timetable and more information about the day. ?

If you like the sound of joining a creative group but are not ready to face an audition or if you are too young for Full Tilt you can join MOVE ON. This is open to 12-16 years and is a good introduction and preparation for the youth dance company. To find out more contact us on 01603 28 33 99

Cambridge County Youth Dance Company Auditions
Auditions are taking place at The Junction for Cambridge County Youth Dance Company on Saturday 22nd September from 11am to 1pm. If you are able to attend regular classes and rehearsals in Cambridge, are enthusiastic about dance and are aged 14 to 21, you could join this exciting Dance Company led by Amy Holly. Hertfordshire Community Dance Showcase - Tuesday 17th July 2007, 7.30pm at Campus West Theatre, The Campus, Welwyn Garden City, Herts AL8 6BX. Dance in Herts, managed by essexdance, presents highlights from their summer term dance programme. The Community Dance Showcase will include performances by the three Hertfordshire Dance Companies, HYDC InPulse, HJDC Shift:North and HJDC Shift:South, as well as extracts from projects and classes from across all areas of Dance in Herts work. This annual showcase from essexdance will celebrate the achievements of Chelmsford community's youth and adult groups who have worked with essexdance over the past year. Bringing together a wide range of dance styles from CHANCE2DANCE adult groups, including contemporary, street jazz and belly dancing; and adding integrated dance groups, FOCUS Youth Dance Company, and the results of the international youth exchange, this is a showcase not to be missed!

Recess Summer 2007 - 20th - 24th August 2007 A week of dance for 13 - 18 year olds. Venue: Boswells School, Burnham Road, Chelmsford, Essex CM1 6LY
We are currently recruiting young people to participate in this week of fun where they will learn technique in contemporary and cultural dance styles. Active Norfolk's new Course Programme
Active Norfolk has launched their new club and coach development programme which runs from June 07 to March 08. The courses are aimed at developing the skills and knowledge of coaches and also to improve the structure of clubs. Courses titles include Nutrition, Coaching Disabled Performers, How to be an Effective Chairperson, Peak Performance Mindset, Marketing Your Club - and many more.
