So whats it all about? The Dacorum School Sports Co-ordinator Partnership officially started in September 2003. In September 2006 the partnership expanded to 69 schools throughout the borough of Dacorum (Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted, Tring & Kings Langley). The schools are made up of a Sports College (Cavendish), 7 Secondary Schools (Adeyfield, Astley Cooper, Hemel, JFK, Kings Langley, Longdean and Tring), 1 Upper School (Ashlyns), 2 Midldle Schools (Bridgewater and Thomas Coram, 55 Primary Schools and 3 Special Schools (Collett, Haywood Grove & Woodfield). Each School Sports Co-ordinator (SSCo's), in the secondary schools, has between two and two and a half days from their timetable each week for this role. Support from the SSCo’s in curriculum and out of hours learning has meant that some schools have already improved this provision and quality of teaching in PE lessons and OSHL. The partnership in July 2006 had 90% of its 5 – 16 year olds taking part in at least 2 hours of high quality PE and school sport.
